simulations
Is the Managing Director of the Manitoba HVDC Research Centre and has 18 years of experience in engineering studies using a variety of simulation products during his career including PSCAD™ and PSS/E. His expertise is regularly sought out by clients around the world for his strong and wide ranging technical knowledge on power system behavior, model development and simulation studies. He has lead the technical team to solve challenging problems including HVDC and generation interconnections, wind integration into weak grids, SSR screening techniques and power quality and harmonics.
Dharshana has worked extensively and closely with equipment vendors to develop simulation models and techniques to address difficult interconnection problems. In addition to his engineering study experience, Dharshana has been a key developer of the PSCAD simulation tool and has conducted training workshops on a variety of power system topics.

Luiz Augusto Barroso has a B.Sc. in Mathematics and a PhD degree in OR. He is a technical director at PSR, where he has been providing consulting services, researching and lecturing on power systems economics focusing on hydrothermal systems and market design worlwide. He is also an associated researcher at the Comillas Pontifical University on Madrid, Spain and a regular lecturer at the Florence School of Regulation. He was the recipient of the 2010 IEEE PES Outstanding Young Engineer Award and is currently an Associated Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Power Systems and IEEE Transactions on Smart Grids. He has more than 100 publications in conference proceedings and referred journals.
